Blue Giant

Denver-based artist Johnny Draco (@johnnydraco_) presents Blue Giant, a new solo exhibition opening June 6 from 6–10pm at Alto Gallery. The exhibition marks a pivotal expansion in Draco’s practice, moving from abstraction into silhouette and defined figures while building a visual language rooted in Black identity and the African diaspora. Blue Giant explores themes of growth, transformation, and cultural memory through layered surfaces, texture, and contrast. The title references a star entering its blue giant phase, a period defined by intensity, scale, and rapid expansion, reflected throughout the work as Draco moves into a more immersive and fully realized direction. Opening night extends beyond the visual, bringing together collaborators across Denver’s creative community. Food will be provided by Chef Ni of Sap Sua, Chef Khoran, and Chef Pradyut of Chaatwala. Music will be led by DJ Bugs Honey, with a special collaboration by Scarien. Beer will be provided by Best Day Brewing and Ratio Beer Works, with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available. The event is free and open to the public.
