This role works as part of a line crew, providing essential ground support to journeyman lineworkers and supervisors to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable electric service delivery. Duties include preparing job sites, handling tools and materials, assisting with equipment installation, supporting overhead and underground work, and maintaining a strong focus on safety and situational awareness in an active utility environment. This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions and environments, follow established safety procedures, and learn industry best practices related to electrical systems, equipment operation, and hazard mitigation. The Electric Ground Lineworker is expected to develop foundational skills in line construction and maintenance while demonstrating reliability, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous learning. This role serves as a pathway toward advancement into an apprentice or journeyman lineworker position. Step 1 $31.37/hour, $2,509.82/biweekly, $65,255.34/annually Step 2 $32.88/hour, $2,630.25/biweekly, $68,386.52/annually Step 3 $34.46/hour, $2,756.53/biweekly, $71,669.67/annually Step 4 $36.11/hour, $2,888.82/biweekly, $75,109.37/annually Step 5 $37.84/hour, $3,027.54/biweekly, 78,715.99/annually Step 6 $39.66/hour, $3,172.90/biweekly, $82,495.28/annually Step 7 $41.60/hour, $3,328.30/biweekly, $86,535.90/annually Step 8 $43.68/hour, $3,494.25/biweekly, $90,850.49/annually Essential Duties And Responsibilities The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive. • Installs, maintains, repairs and assists qualified personnel in the operation of the City’s electric distribution system. • Maintains high and low voltage equipment. • Assists qualified employees with high voltage switching and load transfer. • Works overtime when required. • Must be willing and able to be on-call 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays. • Maintains vehicle truck stock, tools, and materials • Works closely with heavy equipment operators to expose utilities, dig trenches, pole holes, etc. • Operates and maintains specialized line construction equipment such as directional boring machine, bucket truck, and backhoe. • Installs and maintains electrical residential and commercial metering. • Interprets material needs from work orders and blueprints. • May direct the work of other crew members. • Assists in training and development of crew members. • Manages databases and programs by collecting and entering information. • Inspects work for completion and conformance to standards. • Teaches safety and job- related classes for the utility department and the public. • Provides customer service by answering questions, providing information and referrals, and resolving complaints and problems. • Maintains cooperative and compatible working relations with internal and external customers, employees, contractors, and managers. • Assumes responsibility for job site, employee, and public safety in instances where line workers, line crew chiefs, and others may not be present. Required Knowledge Skills And Abilities • Knowledge of fundamental principles of electrical energy. • Knowledge of National Electric Safety Code. • Knowledge of distribution mapping symbols and procedures. • Knowledge of primary and secondary meters and operation. • Knowledge of street lighting system • Knowledge of line clearance, and tree trimming. • Knowledge of primary voltage switching procedures and techniques. • Ability to operate directional boring machine, digger truck, bucket truck, backhoe, trenchers and tampers, cable pulling machines, chain saws, and various electric testing equipment. • Ability to maintain vehicles and equipment. • Ability to do basic math. • Ability to climb and work at heights. • Ability to use text, email, mobile devices, and other means of communication. • Proficient in rescue procedures including pole top, confined space and aerial device rescue. • Ability to interpret blueprints and mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics. • Knowledge of and conformance with all safety procedures associated with construction, maintenance and operation of the electrical system. MinimumPreferred Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED High school diploma or GED Experience Requirements • One year related experience and or Training in Electrical Distribution System Installation, Operation and Maintenance.
